Immigration law changes in Estonia

Some important changes in Estonian immigration laws and policy will apply from the 15th of July this year, also the somewhat controversial language requirement. So what changes?

  1. Some specialist workers are now left out of the calculated immigration quota. These are specialists receiving at least a double average Estonian salary.

  2. Short-term employment is now allowed to be 1 year instead of 9 months to accommodate the need for more workers;

  3. The A-2 language requirement is compulsory for residence permit holders who have worked in Estonia for 5 years and want to apply for a new residence permit or extend the existing one. This does NOT apply to any current residence permit holders and applies for all newcomers who receive their residence permit after the 15th of July 2018.
