Same-sex marriage possible in Estonia from 1st of January 2024

Same-sex marriage is set to be legal from January 1, 2024. Registered partnerships will also remain an option for all couples following the legalisation of same-sex marriage in Estonia.

Although same-sex marriage concluded in other countries has also been accepted for immigration purposes, having an option to get married in Estonia could be better suited for many.

The procedure for getting married has been covered this in one of our previous articles. Under certain circumstances a foreigner needs a court approval to get married in Estonia. It is usually just a formality but still an important step to be followed.

As a spouse or a registered partner, a person is eligible to apply for a residence permit for settling with their spouse.
