Immigration law changes in 2026

Year 2026 will bring changes to Estonian immigration laws and in general it can be said immigration will get even more difficult. Here are some of the key things to look out for:
We have touched upon this in the past but for the TRP for settling permanently there will be a mandatory Estonian language skill requirement at level A2 as well as passing of integration programme.
All employers wishing to employ foreigners need to have actual business in Estonian for at least 6 months prior.
Processing time of TRP-s will increase to 3 months. In reality it was like this already but now the law also states this. D-visa processing goes up to 30 days.
More documents will be asked - for TRP-s 6 months bank records along with apostilled criminal records documents (from age 15). Again, these documents were quite often asked anyway but now there is a clear legal basis for it.
Now the applicant also has to list their social media accounts.
Overall, with more planning ahead the process can still be smooth. We are happy to help you with any immigration matters in Estonia. You can email us at info@expatlegalestonia.com
