Same sex marriage legalized in Estonia. Opens options for immigration
An implementing bill passed its final reading in the Riigikogu on June 20, 2023 and same-sex marriage is set to be legal from January 1, 2024. Registered partnerships will also remain an option for all couples following the legalisation of same-sex marriage in Estonia on January 1, 2024.
Although same-sex marriage concluded in other countries has also been accepted for immigration purposes, having an option to get married in Estonia could be better suited for many.
The final rules could change yet but one should look at the rules regulating foreigners getting married in Estonia at the moment, they will most likely remain the same.

In a nutshell, under certain circumstances a foreigner needs a court approval to get married in Estonia. It is usually just a formality but still an important step to be followed.
As a spouse, a person is eligible to apply for a residence permit for settling with their spouse.
